Our Goals
Norwegian policy as a whole promotes peace and the strengthening of human security.
Policy outcomes
1. Norwegian authorities assume a leading role in the processes towards a robust Arms Trade Treaty.
2. More responsible export of Norwegian weapons through obligatory end-user certification upon sales of weapons, including those to NATO allies, improved marking and the practice of active ownership.
3. Norwegian authorities call for the UN Security Council to fulfil its duties through reporting upon – as well as presenting a long-term plan for – the implementation of Article 26 of the UN Charter concerning the reduction of military use and the preference of development policies. Correspondingly, that the Norwegian government does the same, nationally and through development and other international policies.
4. The government strengthens the civilian dimension when dealing with international crises.
