What we do
We are following international negotiations in FAO and other forums, which are focusing on hunger and food security.
We are currently debating the issue of biofuels with the goal of establishing sustainability criteria for the biofuel market in Norway. We are also advocating Norwegian and international authorities in order to increase the share of agriculture within international aid. And we are closely monitoring WTO and others who might have a negative impact on developing countries possibility toprotect national food production.
We are closely following the establishment of the Food Security Committee in FAO. FAO has decided to strengthen this committee in several ways, in order to reinforce international coordination and planning of food security initiatives. We are as well participating in the meetings of IPC in Rome, where the coordination of international civil society actions towards the Rome-based multilateral organizations takes place.
We are pushing the Norwegian government to follow the recommendation from the Parliament Committee on Foreign affairs to revise the now six year old Action Plan for Agriculture in Aid, or even write a new.
There is an on-going process amongst a number of Norwegian environmental and development oriented NGOs to agree on a common position on biofuels. It is as well desired to keep an eye on Norwegian companies’ investments in biofuel sector in developing countries.
