Working Group on Climate and Energy

Main objectives:

The main objective of ForUMs Working Group on Climate and Energy is to influence Norwegian policy on energy and climate change. We do lobbying of joint policy on behalf of our member organizations through position papers on selected issues, and liaise with civil society partners in other countries and regions to promote a common political agenda.

Activities:

1. Work to promote mutual trust with countries in the South, with the intention of a closer integration of the work under the UN's Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Kyoto agreement.
2. Seek cooperation with other Nordic organizations with a view to influencing politicians in the Nordic countries.
3. Follow up the CDM part of the Kyoto agreement.
4. Support ForUM with the development of a common platform on energy and climate, and a platform for cooperation on the international climate negotiations for the new period of commitment after 2012.
5. Follow up the renewable energy initiatives from the UN Summit in Johannesburg and the Renewable Energy conference in Bonn, June 2004
