Memorial in honor of Nobel Peace Prize Winner Wangari Mathaai

Wangari Mathaai died on the 25.th. of September 2011 at the age of 71. She was one of Africa’s leading women and a globally recognized environmental activist. The 19th of October Forum will have a memorial in her honor.

Wangari Mathaai fought tirelessly for women’s rights and democratic rights for all. Recognizing this impressive work Wangari was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004, following the Sophie Award the same year.

Wangari held a unique radiance and  presence. She was a doer and mobilized thousands of women in Africa for the protection of the environment through the ”Green Belt Movement. Wangari was a global activist as well and inspired us all to act now for the protection of our fragile environment.

Forum for Environment and Development (ForUM), The Association of Kenyans in Norway and PAWA hereby has the pleasure of inviting you to this memorial for Wangari.
