Faces of Violence

A former gang member from Rio advices states on how to regulate arms trade to reduce violence and poverty when UN negotiations for an Arms Trade Treaty in New York starts next week.

Washington "Feijao" Rimas (picture) is a former drug dealer who is now a cultural leader helping youths in the violence-ridden favelas of Rio de Janeiro. He appears in the film "Faces of Violence" (see trailer - not suitable for children!)  that will be screened next week on a side-event hosted by Oxfam, Igarape and ForUM.

A panel discusses  the role an Arms Trade Treaty can play in reducing armed violence and help achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
