Join the meeting the 9th Dec at 20.00 hrs at Norrøna (a ship at the Copenhagen harbour). Which are the most pressing concerns for civil society representatives present in Copenhagen?

Tirsdag 8. desember 2009  | Utskrift

A very large number of representatives from Civil Society Organizations, NGOs and Social Movements have assembled in Copenhagen for the COP 15, both inside and outside the official conference. We come from the North and the South, almost all countries in the world have civil society representatives here. We share the goal of participating in putting pressure on negotiators and governments to make the best possible agreement that may save the world’s climate, and we share the hope of witnessing the parties reaching such a ground-breaking agreement. Nevertheless, as we come from different constituencies, we may have different priorities and different approaches to the process.

This informal dialogue will include a short introduction by Meena Raman of Third World Network on main demands from Civil Society to the Climate Conference, followed by short presentations by: (tbc) Negusu Aklilu Forum for Environment Ethiopia, Sena Alouka of JVE, Togo and a representative from DR Congo. Other representatives from a few organizations will be present, and there will be ample opportunity for discussion among the participants. A negotiator from the Norwegian delegation may as well be present (tbc)

Reception from 21.00 hrs: Light meal and the discussion continues.

Forum for Environment and Development (ForUM) and Environmental Movements in the South (EMiS) are two umbrella organizations located in Oslo, Norway. They are together with partners from the South planning to organize two seminars about environmental movements and organizations in the South and their strategies for the follow-up of the climate summit and other cross-cutting environmental issues. These seminars will be open to all who are interested.
